HISTORY OF STIRLING ALBION F.C. Season 1974/75
Season Review
1974/75 was the last year of the old two division structure of Scottish Football. Instead of the normal relegation and promotion, teams were playing for places in the new Premier, First or Second Divisions. Albion needed to finish in the top six of the Second Division to make it into Division One - something they had managed in four of the previous six seasons. This time it was not to be - Albion finished in 8th place, three points behind the 6th placed team. Those to make it into Division One were Falkirk, Queen of the South, Montrose, Hamilton Accies, East Fife and St Mirren.
Mickey Lawson was top scorer again - with 28 competitive goals. Billy Steele hit 22. The season had started with a Dryborough Cup against Rangers at Annfield. This game made the front page headlines as the ned element amongst the Rangers support trashed pubs in the town centre.
The Scottish Cup brought a memorable train trip to Inverness. Team and fans travelled together but the result was disappointing - a 4-3 defeat against Clachnacuddin.
