Season Review

1973/74 was the season when football (not to mention life in general) was interrupted by the power crisis. Strikes by miners and power station workers brought the country to a standstill. There was a 3-day working week; a ban on the use of floodlights and scheduled power cuts to conserve energy.

The Scottish Cup tie against Montrose brought this into perspective. The match was played on a Sunday at Links Park with a 2pm kick off and ended in a draw. The replay was played on the Wednesday afternoon at Annfield with a 1.30 kick off. Over 1000 fans turned out - some were of due to the 3-day week and others were absentees from work or, like the programme, from school.

Albion won 3-1 and went through to play Celtic at Parkhead. This was another Sunday match which ended in a 6-1 win for jock Stein's team.

Highlight of the season was the run of 19 goals in three games during March, 7-0 v Forfar, 7-1 v Albion Rovers and v Brechin City. Those were the days!!!
