Arbroath made a poor start to the season and parted company with manager Stevie Kirk after some disappointing results. In his place they have appointed ex-Stenhousemuir and Brechin City defender Harry Cairney. They picked up their first point of the season with a goalless draw against Ayr United a couple of weeks ago. The locale...Arbroath used to be a holiday resort but it attracts few visitors these days. For an amusing account of life in Arbroath B and B read Charlie Connelly's amusing travelogue "The Shipping Forecast". The fishing industry has also declined with few boats now operating from Arbroath. However, the Arbroath Smokie has now been recognised by the EU and only fish cured within 20 miles of Arbroath can now bear that name. There is a huge Royal Marines base in the town known as HMS Condor. You pass the entrance to it on the way into the town before reaching Gayfield. The team...They got of to a dreadful start and have struggled to recover. Key players such as Steven Rennie (an Alva lad) and Euan Donaldson were missing when they came to Forthbank in August but are now fit for selection. Lack of firepower seems to be a major problem with Duncan McLean so far failing to find his scoring boots. However, last Saturday they kick started their season with a great 3-0 win away to Berwick Rangers. The travel...Head for Dundee and then take the coastal road towards Montrose. If you want to deviate through Monifeith and Carnoustie then you can do but their is no advantage in terms of time. By road it will take you just under and hour and a half. Direct trains from Stirling to Arbroath take about the same time. The ground...Gayfield has been something of a favourite with Binos down the years. Scene of several great results and some downright dreadful ones. On a sunny day this is a great venue; on a cold, wet and windy day there are few places as dismal to watch football. When Arbroath were in the First Division they were required to introduce segregation. This used to be one of the places where you could change ends at will. New stand built since our last visit but it looks remarkably like the old one. The toilet facilities behind the covered terracing on the 'sea' side of the ground are a classic of Scottish football lavatorial construction. Undoubtedly the most exposed gents in the SFL. The fans...Arbroath's home support has dwindled to around the 350 mark this season. For big games they can turn out a noisy and belligerent support but the hard core are a douce and pleasant bunch. It will not be like the televised games in the late 1980s with pitch invasions from Arbroath casuals when they scored. Refreshment...Usual catering inside the ground. Fans requiring refreshment before the match can use the Tuttie's Neuk which is adjacent to the ground. Alternatively it is a 10 minute walk into the town centre where there are a variety of pubs including a Wetherspoons. | Stirling Albion Supporters Club Transport Borestone Bar - 11.05am Islamic Centre - 11.10am Halfway House - 11.15am The prices for the trip to Arbroath is as follows: Adults - £8.00 OAP - £5.00 Child - £5.00 Please note that these times may change, but are the listed times the Supporters Club have given us.
